My mom has an older computer. The video card is built right in to the motherboard, so there is no way to take it out. That video card is completely dead. No signal, no power no video on the monitor etc. I got a new PCI video card, and installed it. The problem is, Windows is not detecting it. I assume because the old video card is still set as the default card, and the new one is not enabled yet. Like I said though, there is no picture on the screen, so I can't see to enable the new one, and disable the old one, or to install the software for the new one. Anyone have any idea how I can enable the new one? I'm sure it is the video card, and not the motherboard, I'm positive the new one is installed correctly, and I tried the cable on a different computer. It still works. Also, the new card is compatible with this computer. I can't imagine what else it could be. BTW it's Windows XP Pro. Thanks

well, first what mobo? and what video card?
find that out and it will tell you if the two are compatible...
to disable the on board video go into the bios and enable the pci...pci-e....apg whatever the interface your using is (which should be done automatically, once it detects the card)...
go to the mfg. of the cards site and download the latest drivers for the card and install them and you should be all set.

First of all you need the correct drivers installed.
Second, if the motherboard is failing then the motherboard is failing. Just because a single part is gone and you think it is seperate does not make it so... the entire thing will eventually fail and you should get her to upgrade asap before she loses all her documents.
You can go into the BIOS and disable onboard video and sound depending on the BIOS version..
You may also need to go into devices and disable the other card.
If you are getting nothing on the screen at all..check the monitor is plugged into the card? ... you will need to move the monitor from the origrinal input to the one ON the card.
Good luck.
You may want to try to replace the motherboard Cmos battery because if its dead nothing is going to happen. It powers the bios which, in turn, fires the board up. ! If you have a multimeter see if you get any voltage on it.
Well, if it you do see it durring the POST screen. The screen that typically shows you the logo of the computer, or various hardware information. Anyways you need to go into your bios, typically F2 or Delete gets you in there when the computer starts. Once in the Bios you need to go under one of the subsections, probably "Integrated Peripherals" under there should be something about, disabling the unboard video. If not continue looking through your bios until you find something that says disable or use pci as your video card.
Option 2: Some motherboards have a jumper on the motherboard itself that will allow you to disable the unboard video. If you must do this, i suggest googleing your motherboard name, or computer model on were the jumper is.
Good luck
