Video Game Design Career Question?

As a freshman in highschool, with a passion for video games, i would like to understand and be informed upon some courses you might suggest to help me succeed in my goal to become a video game designer.

I would like to know

-Some helpful courses that would help me in college

-How working as a video game designer is

-How much free time as a video game designer you get

-What is life like as a video game designer?

- Its the job enjoyable?

I am having trouble with this decision because people view this job as a " silly job" that is not beneficial to society. Should i go with society and become a history teacher, or do what i like and achieve my goal as a video game designer?

Thank you

Video Game Designer makes a whole lot more money than a history teacher, so I would recommend that over being a history teacher.

There are many paths to take to be a video game designer.

The most common path that I have seen is for someone to know how to program games themselves as well have the over all design concept and management skills.

Courses that could help in college would include programming, management, and if there is a game design major, take it!

My friends program for gaming companies but none of them are the main designer. They tell me they work long hours but the pay is good. The bigger name the company the more demanding the job is. The smaller the company the more diverse one has to be because you are going to be doing more in terms of position wise. In a bigger company you can be more specialized.

If you love to design games, then it should be enjoyable!
