Problem playing video clip avi file with sound but no video?

I play the video clip and it says its a video clip but when I play it in windows media player all i hear is the sound but dont see any video. It is a .avi file. what can i do to make sure i see the video with the sound. the only way someone can really tell it is .avi is by looking at the properties of the file. The name of the video just displays the name and the format. I hear sound but no video and I cant just go on and rename it which i tried in the title because there is nothing like that. So something else? thanks

You need the divx codec.

Try playing it in VLC Media Player ( http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ ) or make sure you have the proper codecs ( http://www.free-codecs.com/ )
