okay ... my memory on my computer is running low and is slowing my comp bad. sooo i tried to put all my videos on a cd as a vcd using nero startsmart. but it says it has to be MPEG-4 Decoded because it is a .avi video file. I am trying to put all the videos (taking up about 40 GB) onto the 100 blank Cd's i just bought. but this problem pops up .... i am soo lost help me plz!! i am thinkin about downloading the Lead Codecs MPEG-4 Decoder ... but would that decode the .avi video files i have and allow me to burn it onto a Cd as a VCD? and what would happen to the actual .avi files? would they get put into a different video file? because i am planning on keeping some files. help plz!!!!!
another question ... would the MPEG-4 decoding ruin the .avi video files? cuz dere are still some videos i will end up keepin on my computer and i wish to watch ... thx all

Don't burn to the VCD format because the quality will suffer. MPEG-4 is a "lossy" codec, meaning that it throws picture information away as it translates the AVI file. This is particularly bad if the original AVI is already encoded with a different codec. Save your files directly to the CD as data files if they're not too big for the CD. The only reason to encode the videos to a VCD format is if you want to watch them on your TV using a set-top DVD player.

Ouch. Here this lol. Forget nero startsmart and use Nero Express. Burn everything as a data cd so u have everything back-uped. Then when yur computer stable and stuff (from what i am hearing i suggest u put in more memory and reinstall windows), download the K-lite codec pack. Divx and xvid are very common avi codecs so make sure u have them, Back those up on a cd also. When things are stable etc try out the codecs. Most of yur worries may be over cause i mean, yur videos already on a cd so the risk of loosing them is 0 (unless u scraTCH them), just need d proper codec to decode them is what u hav to worry about. Laterz!
